Staffordshire brings silverware home

Staffordshire’s unique approach to combating climate change has been recognised Councillor Erica Bayliss with Green Apple awardwith a top national award.

Staffordshire County Council took a silver Green Apple Award for its innovative partnership approach which has cut carbon footprints across the county.

The award was collected by Staffordshire County Councillor Erica Bayliss, Vice Chairman of the Council, at a prestigious ceremony at The House of Commons on 17th November.

Judges commended the OC3 ‘Our County, Our Climate, Our Choice’ initiative for its inclusive approach.  The project, led by Staffordshire County Council, supports local authorities, universities, housing associations and the police and fire services to reduce their carbon emissions. It also works with community groups and individuals to encourage grass roots action.

Staffordshire County Councillor Erica Bayliss said the award was richly deserved.

“We have put combating climate change at the heart of our activities. By working with our partners we have made Staffordshire a national leader in this field, which has been recognised with this latest award.

I am proud of the real difference that we have made and look forward to seeing our efforts on combating climate change continue.”

The OC3 initiative has previously won a Government Business Award for sustainability and has been named as an exemplar by the Carbon Trust.
