Firefighters start Cycling Revolution
Over 100 staff at Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service
have signed up to a new cycle scheme. The scheme was launched in July 2008 and is has proved to be highly successful! The Cycle Scheme initiative allows employees to buy a bike and safety equipment tax free and pay off the cost in 12 monthly instalments, deducted from their salary.
Station Manager Ian Housley says, “The scheme is intended to encourage individuals to take up cycling in order to reduce the effect of transport on climate change and to promote a healthier lifestyle choice. Obviously it’s been very popular in the Service because fitness is a priority for our operational staff. This scheme has allowed them to purchase top of the range equipment at a discounted rate.”
